7 Turkish companies entered to the ‘2020 Defense News Top 100’ list
Defense News magazine announced the list of defense industry companies with the highest turnover in the world. Defense News Top 100 list this year had 7 firms from Turkey as ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, BMC, ROKETSAN, STM, FNSS and HAVELSAN. ASELSAN entered the top 50, while FNSS and HAVELSAN entered the list for the first time. Presidency Defense Industry (SSB) President Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir said that: “Our goal is to be on this list with more defense companies.”
TUSAŞ was included in the Defense News Top 100 list with ASELSAN until 2012. ROKETSAN entered the list in 2017, STM in 2018 and BMC in 2019 for the first time. With the addition of FNSS and HAVELSAN this year, the number of Turkish companies increased from two to seven in four years. In addition, Turkey has the 4th place regarding the number of companies following the United States, the United Kingdom and China with 7 companies. Presidency Defense Industry President Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir made the following statement on his social media account Twitter: “Our National Defense Industry is growing day by day. 7 of our companies entered the Defense News Magazine’s list of defense companies with the highest turnover in the world. Four years ago, while 2 companies were on the list, today this number has increased to 7, which made us extremely happy. I congratulate our companies on the list and wish them continued success. Our goal is to be on this list with more defense companies.”
ASELSAN is in the top 50
While ASELSAN climbed up from 52nd to 48th position in the list compared to last year, Turkish Aerospace Industry TUSAŞ rose 16 steps from 69 to 53 compared to last year. BMC ranked 89th, ROKETSAN 91st and STM 92th in the list. This year, FNSS ranked 98th and HAVELSAN entered the list for the first time from 99th position. ASELSAN Chairman of the Board and General Manager Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün said that they are happy to be at the top of the list, but that their goals are much higher. Prof. Görgün stated that: “ASELSAN products continue to serve in 65 countries of the world. We will continue to work day and night to meet the needs of our security forces and the armed forces of friendly and allied countries in a fast and reliable manner. In return, I believe that we will be higher in this list in the coming years. We felt the support of our state always and everywhere with us.”
