Access for everyone with “Internet for 100 Villages”!
The importance of the internet, which has become the center of life in a rapidly digitalizing world, in areas such as access to information, transformation in education, and efficiency in agriculture and production, is gradually increasing. While increasing access to information and communication technologies is among the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; Work is being carried out all over the world to prevent the digital divide and increase social and digital inclusion.
With this approach, İş Bankası and İşNet implemented the “Internet for 100 Villages” project in order to contribute to the economic and social development of rural areas. Installations have been completed in 22 villages so far with the project, which provides internet connection via satellite in villages that do not have or have limited internet access. İşbank General Manager Hakan Aran said:
“In an age where technology and entrepreneurship are the keys to transformation, it is important for children to have access to learning opportunities by connecting to the world via the internet and to technological applications that will increase the productivity of agricultural producers. When there is appropriate infrastructure, the migration of young people from villages to cities can be prevented. While the agricultural specialization branches we opened in the fertile plains of our country play a role in bringing agriculture and technology together, we are taking a step that will contribute to the solution of the access problem in the villages with our information technologies subsidiary İşNet. The ‘Internet for 100 Villages’ project is a move that carries the founding vision of our Bank, beyond an infrastructure investment. With this approach, we will continue to support projects that contribute to the development of our country, together with our subsidiaries, throughout this year when we will celebrate our 100th anniversary.”
