Continuity in all matters depends on fiber infrastructure (from now on)
Coronavirus cases are pushing the people to work from home and manage their business remotely in Turkey as well as all over the world. With schools being closed, many students receive online education from home. People are expected to adapt to the culture of working and learning from home faster. As a result, the increase in internet traffic gains importance. Thus, the importance of controlling the traffic that intensive internet use will create on networks and the critical role of fiber infrastructure in such processes are revealed. Turkish Competitive Telecommunications Operators Association (TELKODER) predicts that there will be no problems in internet traffic in the short term, however, it points out that it is necessary to have a more widespread and strong fiber infrastructure in order to be able to eliminate new crisis scenarios and to continue the digitalization steps in our country.
TELKODER believes that the process of working from home and learning will be an important experience in the long term to spread digitalization to the whole country and believes that jobs and education should not be interrupted during these processes. According to TELKODER; given the issues such as employees accessing information, working from home and students accessing online education channels without any problems, it is critical to have a strong internet infrastructure in households. Noting that the integrity and quality of the communication infrastructure is important in all kinds of disasters, TELKODER officials think that it is necessary to urgently find a solution for increasing the fiber infrastructure after surviving this process with minimal damage. According to TELKODER, barriers to operators who want to invest in fiber should be eliminated in order to have a sufficient fiber infrastructure.
