Domestic and national 5G preparations gain strength
In the End to End Domestic and National 5G (UUYM5G) Network Project, which was initiated by the Communication Technologies Cluster (HTK) with the support of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), OSTİM and TÜBİTAK, the first call was made with the domestic and national 5G infrastructure, the first data was transferred through the radio link device. The Executive Board meeting was held digitally on July 23 with the participation of the Presidency Digital Transformation Office President Ali Taha Koç, BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, OSTİM Chairperson Orhan Aydın, BTK Vice President Gazali Çiçek, TÜBİTAK Vice President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, TÜBİTAK/TEYDEB President Mehmet Aslan and more than 100 participants from public institutions and private sector representatives.
BTK President Karagözoğlu stated that 5G technology is a software-based technology and has caused strategic changes in the way countries view communication technologies, with it being the focus of many sectors. Emphasizing that countries handle 5G technology in terms of national security and public order, Karagözoğlu noted that in the light of these developments, the strategy of switching to 5G technology with domestic and national network products is very accurate. Reminding that the domestic and national 5G network products developed within the scope of the End-to-End Local and National 5G Communication Network Project are very important for the smooth transition of our country to 5G, Karagözoğlu also reminded that the operational experiences of the mobile operators in the project will have an important contribution in the commercialization of these products.
In the event, among the products developed within the scope of the studies, various services were introduced such as data transfer at a distance of 1 km over the domestic and national radio link device, live voice and image transmission using commercial 5G phones over the 5G core network and 5G base station, internet access speed according to subscriber service, quota categories and demonstrations of network management software developed for the purpose of implementing service quality, measuring the performance of the 5G core network and monitoring it graphically.
Founded with the leadership of OSTİM and together with more than 130 companies, 14 companies under the HTK started an important development project with the support of TÜBİTAK-TEYDEB under the coordination of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority and the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Along with 14 companies, 3 mobile operators, universities and academicians were included in the UUYM5G project. For the commercialization of the products developed under the UUYM5G project, GTENT company which was launched by the 10 project stakeholders as a result of being export-oriented also began the commercialization activities of products while cooperating with mobile operators in Turkey. Every year 1.5 billion TL worth of hardware and software investment is made for the 4.5G technology by mobile operators. Considering that similar investment trend would occur in 5G technology, UUYM5G Project aims to emerge domestic and national products with the billions worth of contribution to Turkey’s economy.
