E-Commerce industry size reached 60 billion TL
According to the annual report of “Turkey E-Commerce Market Size” by Informatics Industry Association (TÜBİSAD), the e-commerce industry in 2018 reached the volume of 59.9 billion TL, with 42% growth. Between the years of 2014-2018, the industry’s average annual growth rate was 33%.
TÜBİSAD Chairman Kübra Erman Karaca, stating that the e-commerce industry continued its rapid growth in a challenging year for Turkey’s economy, said:
“E-commerce industry, perhaps now it be more accurate to say digital commerce, is among the most dynamic industries of Turkey, rapidly growing and evolving. It is of great importance that digital transformation takes place in public and large enterprises as well as in SMEs, society and individuals. The fact that individuals adapt to developments that will make their lives easier by using new technologies is a driving force in the growth of the industry.”
Large companies grow even greater!
TÜBİSAD e-Commerce Commission President Burak Ertaş said that the continued growth of the e-commerce volume is pleasing not only for the sector but also for the country’s economy and added:
“When we look at Turkey for the last 5 years, we see an average of 33% growth in the volume of e-commerce. Last year there was a growth of 42%. -commerce needs to be addressed not only as online shopping but also with the industries it triggers. In this respect, e-commerce makes a significant contribution to the development of tourism, technology and retail industries.
The ratio of e-commerce to the total retail market is 5.3%, which is below the average of developing countries even though the data is very positive in our industry. We believe that the e-commerce industry, which is highly dynamic with technological innovations, will have higher shares in the coming years with the development of mobile internet and mobile applications in our country.”
