How do companies not ever get Alzheimer’s?
While the business world of the future is moving towards autonomous companies and concepts such as technology, society and economy are being renewed, it is seen that some companies do not compare and measure the past and present instantly and mathematically with data. Defining companies experiencing this situation as ‘Alzheimer’s Company’, according to Digital Transformation Consultant Dr. Engineer Gülay Savaş, the majority of companies operating in Turkey do not proceed with a goal-oriented strategic planning, only saving the day. Gülay Savaş, who defines Alzheimer’s companies as “structures without a corporate memory”, explained the characteristic features of Alzheimer’s companies as follows:
“It is about that all the processes of the company are still stored in the memory of one or two key people or in their computers, that there is no corporate memory, that all processes in the company are not managed and monitored with an integrated software solution. It is also important that each department manages its own process in a dispersed manner with separate software running in different databases, that the information of a process is not integrated with other information, and that many process information or programs still do not work on the internet. It is in question that institutions do not want to open or move their information to the cloud due to their approach to not trusting the internet and cloud technologies. Alzheimer’s companies have steps to take to get rid of the current situation they are in. First of all, all on premise processes must be registered in the same software, in the same database and in a single format. Data analysis should be done in order to make better decisions and provide better service to its customers. The decision mechanism should be managed through administrative indicators. Improvement goals must be set for better quality outputs and results. Administrative follow-up should be at the center in order to walk confidently in line with the right business follow-up and determined targets. Management should be provided with current results and benchmarking should be done. New targets should be set, taking success to new ground should be among the business processes and targets.”
