It is important to commercialize the products in the 5G project
The “End to End Domestic and National 5G Project 7th Executive Board and Closing Meeting of the First Phase”, where 5G domestic products were promoted, was held on June 23, hosted by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK). Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made the first voice call with a 5G mobile phone over the 5G infrastructure developed domestically and nationally.
Noting that the 5G project is important because of the tremendous speed it will bring to our lives, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that as of the end of 2020, there are more than 7 billion mobile phone subscriptions in the world. Karaismailoğlu emphasized that mobile internet subscription exceeds 75% of the world’s population and underlined that they predict that 20% of global connections will be made up of 5G technologies by 2025. Noting that mobile network operators all over the world are expected to invest more than 1.1 trillion USD in their networks in the next five years, and about 80% of this investment is expected to be in 5G technology. Karaismailoğlu expressed that: “By 2025, there will be 100 billion different connections in the world and it is estimated that only 10% of these connections will consist of humans. It is estimated that in the near future, the data to be circulated per square kilometer will increase 16 times, approximately every 4 years. To meet this demand, we will need 25 times more frequencies and 2,000 times more base stations than the previous generation.”
Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that they achieved a growth of 15.6% in the ICT sector in 2020 and emphasized that the countries that want to have a say in the world today attach special importance to 5G technology. Karaismailoğlu said that: “5G, unlike previous generations, will increase the speed of the internet up to 100 times. The electronic communication sector will almost jump in size in the current voice, data and image transmission. 5G technology will accelerate developments and innovations in areas such as machine learning, the internet of things, artificial intelligence, inter-machine communication (M2M) that is being studied today. With 5G, which has a more effective and powerful cyber security system, data analytics will gain even more importance, while the importance of coding and design will increase. Brand new business opportunities will arise such as autonomous vehicle, remote surgery with almost instant communication capability.”
