Machine-to-machine communication subscriber number reached 7 million
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the “Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report” prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK). Karaismailoğlu noted that in the second quarter of the year, the net sales revenues of the electronic communications sector increased by 18%.
Making a statement about the “Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report” covering the second quarter of 2021, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that investments in the electronic communications sector increased by 34%. Karaismailoğlu said that: “Investments in the electronic communication sector did not slow down. The net sales revenues of the electronic communication sector increased by 18% in the second quarter of the year.” He pointed out that the electronic communication sector is important in terms of affecting the business practices of other sectors and increasing productivity. Expressing that they expect the technologies to be put into use in the near future to increase the acceleration of the industry, Karaismailoğlu stated that 5G and widespread high speed fiber infrastructures will also make a positive contribution to the recovery and improvement in the economy in general.
Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that in the second quarter of 2021, net sales revenues in the sector exceeded 22.1 billion TL and that the share of Türk Telekom and mobile operators in this income was 16.1 billion TL. Emphasizing that the high growth in investments since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic continued in the second quarter, Karaismailoğlu said: “Investments increased by approximately 34% compared to the same period of the previous year and exceeded 3.8 billion TL.” Sharing the information that the number of mobile subscribers is 84.6 million, Karaismailoğlu expressed that: “The subscriber prevalence is 101.2 %. 78.5 million of these subscribers are 4.5 G subscribers. The number of machine-to-machine communication subscribers has reached 7 million. The total number of migrated mobile numbers was 152.4 million, and 2.3 million numbers were migrated in this quarter. Our total number of broadband internet subscribers grew to 85.7 million, of which 68.3 million were mobile. This figure increased by 9.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest percentage increase in the number of subscribers was realized in the number of ‘Fiber to the Home’ subscribers with 32.3%, followed by the number of ‘Cable Internet’ subscribers with a rate of 13.6%. While the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 211 Gigabytes, the monthly average usage of mobile subscribers reached 10.5 Gigabytes. The total fiber infrastructure length in our country increased by 10.2% and exceeded 445 thousand kilometers. Karaismailoğlu noted that in the second half of the year, they expect the increase in financial data, subscriber numbers and usage amounts in the electronic communication sector and accordingly operator investments will continue.
