SOCAR Turkey works for Industry 4.0
SOCAR Turkey has implemented many IT projects with reference to the principles of Industry 4.0 in all group companies since 2018. Petkim also made its way through Industry 4.0 journey with digitalization steps. SOCAR Turkey Refinery and Petrochemicals Business Unit Digitalization and Information Technologies Vice President Murad Abdullayev explained this structure as: “With 15 main factories and 6 auxiliary facilities, we are an indispensable raw material supplier to domestic and foreign industrialists and one of the biggest actors of our country in the sector. We define Industry 4.0 structure as “digital factory” and “digital employee” and perceive it as a process management in which all our business systems are integrated with digital technologies. Pointing to the priority of ensuring technological integrity not only with systems and business processes, but also with all the rings that make up the value chain, including the investments made to improve the skills of employees in the digitalization journey, Murad Abdullayev stated that: “Thanks to the Industry 4.0 standard achieved by digital applications and systems, Petkim was selected for the ‘Global Lighthouse Network’ of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in January 2020. The only company selected from Turkey for the ‘Global Lighthouse Network’ was Petkim in 2020.” Murad Abdullayev added that:
“WEF has been running the Global Lighthouse Network with collaboration of McKinsey & Company and this title has been given out since 2018. Manufacturers that have implemented the 4th Industrial Revolution technologies effectively and comprehensively in their production facilities are deemed worthy of the title of “Lighthouse”. The common points of the organizations that are entitled to become a member of this platform and to receive this title are starting their digital journeys from the transformation of the facility’s operating systems and enabling labor participation with steps such as IoT integration and gaining new capabilities. These companies, which have reached 44 in the world with the 18 organizations added this year, reveal what is possible with the more comprehensive implementation of the innovative approach that transforms production facilities. The Advanced Production and Forming the Future of Production Platform, which WEF previously implemented, was essentially the pioneer of the Global Lighthouse Network. Organizations selected for the Global Lighthouse Network are guiding other organizations in the production sectors in the effective and efficient implementation of the latest technologies such as upgrading systems and artificial intelligence, big data analysis and 3D printing. Organizations that are members of the Global Lighthouse Network share their digital journeys, experiences, case examples and insights with real and virtual factory visits, establish new partnerships and transform the business models of the industry to accelerate the adoption and spread of technology in production.
The Global Lighthouse Network platform not only draws attention to the digital transformation efforts of the most advanced manufacturers in the world, but also offers producers around the world a joint learning journey that will shed light on their potential assessment of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Global Lighthouse Network members redefine the criteria for operational and financial impact for the production ecosystem and raise the bar. Petkim and other member organizations selected for this platform are leading the acceleration of the transformation of the production ecosystem with their success in technology transformation.”
