TÜİK announces IT data in startups
Turkey Statistical Institute (TÜİK) published ‘Informatics Technologies Usage in startups Research 2020’.
According to the research results; the internet access rate of startups with 10 or more employees was 94.9% in 2020. When the rate of internet access is analyzed according to the number of employees by size groups; the results showed 94.2% in startups with 10-49 employees, 97.8% in startups with 50-249 employees and 99.4% in startups with 250 or more employees.
92.5% of startups used fixed broadband connection to access the internet in 2020. Considering the highest subscribed internet connection speeds of startups with fixed broadband Internet access; it was determined that 10.0% of them were using internet at speeds below 10 Mbit/s, 61.9% in the speed range of 10-99 Mbit/s and 28.1% at 100 Mbit/s and above.
Paid cloud computing usage was 40.8% in startups with 250 or more employees
Website ownership rate in startups with 10 or more employees, increased by 2.2 points to 53.7% in 2020 compared to the previous year. The website ownership rate was 89.2% in startups with 250 or more employees, followed by 74.1% with 50-249 employees and 49.2% with 10-49 employees. The most preferred e-Sales platform has become the startup’s own website or mobile application. In 2019, 77.1% of startups with 10 or more e-sales employees used their own websites or mobile apps, while 55.7% used online stores and marketplaces as e-Sales platforms, where different startups can sell. Paid cloud computing usage was 14.1% in startups with 10 or more employees in 2020. This rate was 10.1% in 2018. Paid cloud computing service usage rate by employee size groups is as 40.8% of startups with 250 or more employees. This was followed by startups with 50-249 employees with 22.2% and startups with 10-49 employees with 11.9%.
The rate of startups using robot technology is 5.1%
3.1% of startups with at least 10 employees said they used their own 3D printers or 3D printers provided by other startups in 2019. When the startups using three-dimensional printers according to the number of employee size group are examined; it has been calculated that 2.7% of startups with 10-49 employees, 4.0% of startups with 50-249 employees and 9.1% of startups with 250 or more employees use 3D printers. 5.1% of startups with at least 10 employees stated that they used industrial robots or service robots in 2020. When the ratio of those using industrial robots or service robots according to the number of employees and size group is examined; it was observed that 3.9% of startups with 10-49 employees, 9.4% of startups with 50-249 employees and 19.6 % of startups with 250 or more employees used robot technology.
